The company that bought bankrupt VarTec Telecom Inc.'s assets is resurrecting a familiar brand in the Dallas telecom industry.
Excel Communications, once a Dallas-based company with the nation's fifth-largest long-distance network, is coming alive again, says Comtel Telcom Assets LP, which completed an $82.1 million acquisition of nearly all the assets of Dallas-based VarTec this week.
VarTec bought Excel in 2001, and VarTec's buyers decided to use the Excel brand as part of their plan to give the company a fresh start.
