"Many high-priced fruit drinks are trumpeting claims of health benefits from drinking recommended amounts of their bottled juice, instead of eating fruits and vegetables. Some of those drinks include exotic ingredients like the acai berry which comes from the Amazon region of Brazil. One of the popular drinks, called MonaVie, is not sold in stores but by private distributors who host prospective customers at tasting parties.
A 25-ounce bottle of MonaVie retails for $45. But Victoria Zinser, a Valley distributor, says there are discounted prices for distributors and preferred customers. For example, those who pay a one-time $39 fee can order a four-bottle case for as little as $120, plus shipping. Other discounts are available for bulk and monthly orders.
