More people are joining Reliv International Inc. as distributors of nutritional supplements as a way to supplement their incomes or make money after losing their jobs.The Chesterfield, Mo.-based direct-selling company reported a 19 percent increase in the number of new distributors in the first quarter. Reliv enrolled about 8,400 new distributors in the first quarter, up from 7,030 a year ago.
Reliv (Nasdaq: RELV) now has a total of more than 68,000 distributors, said Barry Murov, a company spokesman.
“The economy obviously plays a role as more people … are looking for additional income or to supplement what they get while they are out of work,” he said.
