Original Npros business profile for IWowWe, preserved below for archival purposes:
iWowWe was a technology-focused network marketing company founded by William "Bill" Starkey in 2007 and based in The Woodlands, Texas. The company developed online video communication tools aimed at both individual users and businesses, with its iWowWe.com video email and conferencing platform formally introduced to the broader market in 2010. Its primary services included video email, web conferencing, virtual meeting rooms, contact management, custom video templates, and business communication tools. In January 2011, the company made its basic video email service free while continuing to charge for video conferencing and other premium services. An industry report from 2012 estimated that iWowWe had more than $10 million in annual revenue and approximately 30,000 distributors and customers.
iWowWe combined its communications technology with a network marketing opportunity. Independent representatives promoted the company's video products and could earn commissions from customer and distributor sales as well as the activity of their organizations. The compensation plan changed several times during the company's operation. Earlier versions used a matrix structure, including a 3-by-7 matrix that was later expanded to 3-by-9, along with retail commissions, product sales bonuses, matching bonuses, and rank-based incentives. In 2013, iWowWe replaced the matrix structure with a binary compensation plan and introduced a separate annual affiliate fee, while continuing to market a package of video email, conferencing, and internet marketing tools.
The company experienced increasing difficulties during its later years. Reports from former distributors in 2015 alleged unpaid commissions, frequent compensation-plan changes, and the departure of prominent field leaders. In September 2015, Starkey sold iWowWe's video conferencing platform to Acesse, which renamed the technology VideoMeet. iWowWe subsequently informed customers and affiliates that the company would shut down effective June 30, 2016, with existing users offered the option of transferring their service to VideoMeet. The iWowWe network marketing opportunity has not resumed operations.
