Maddy Moo Creations was founded around 2005 by Elizabeth Chester, a former financial-services employee in the Atlanta area. Chester developed the company after leaving her corporate career to spend more time with her two children. She initially considered selling wholesale handbags through home parties before building the business around custom-made bags that customers could design themselves. Maddy Moo operated from Woodstock and later Acworth, Georgia.

The company sold personalized handbags, purses, totes, diaper bags, cosmetic bags, and related accessories. Customers selected a bag style and then chose from dozens of exterior and interior fabrics.
