Vintage Tupperware

Having been originally developed in 1946 by Earl Silas Tupper, Tupperware products have been around for over 60 years. Tupper developed plastic containers to contain food and keep it fresh and airtight. Many Tupperware products include the patented "burping seal", which is a famous aspect of Tupperware.

There are a number of web sites run by collectors that demonstrate Tupperware made nearly 60 years ago. These web sites include photos, descriptions, stories and even vintage catalogues that allow you to see what the common housewife may have seen in the late 40s and 50s when opening a catalogue showcasing what the Tupperware company had to offer households. Many vintage Tupperware adds displayed a piece of fruit, or a piece of pastry with a crude locking mechanism attached, accompanied by the slogan: "Put a lock on freshness".

In the years that followed and even today, the Tupperware company has made toys, cutlery, cookware, tools, picnic sets, school lunch sets, microwaveable sets, and even cake stands. Designs have become more aerodynamic, and plastics have grown more sophisticated in chemical makeup, but the concept of Tupperware has changed very little since the beginning.
