Green Mountain Energy Launches in Pennsylvania

PHILADELPHIA June 1, 2012 -- Green Mountain Energy Company, the nation's leading competitive retail provider of cleaner energy, today begins offering electricity service to Pennsylvania homes and businesses in the PECO and PPL service territories. Green Mountain's 15 year dedication to renewable energy offers customers a reliable, experienced green power partner and electricity products made from renewable energy sources that include wind, water and the sun. By expanding into the Pennsylvania market, Green Mountain and its customers encourage further demand for renewable energy production and help reduce the demand for traditional fossil-fueled electricity, which causes pollution.

"We work hard to ensure there are cleaner energy products that fit the various needs of both our residential and commercial customers, which is why Green Mountain offers multiple service plan options"

"Green Mountain has been supplying renewable energy to retail customers longer than any other company and we're excited to bring this experience to Pennsylvania where the demand and passion for cleaner energy is strong," said John Holtz, Director of Market Development for Green Mountain Energy Company. "Our knowledge and dedication towards renewable energy and innovation in 'changing the way power is made' sets us apart as a retail provider and we look forward to providing that value to the Pennsylvania communities we now serve."

Positive Environmental Change Driven by Customers

In addition to the new Pennsylvania market, Green Mountain serves hundreds of thousands of residential and business customers in Texas, New York, New Jersey and Oregon, including one of the company's most famous customers, the Empire State Building. Green Mountain also provides renewable energy certificates (RECs), carbon offsets and sustainable energy solutions to customers nationwide. For example, in February 2012, Green Mountain proudly served as the green power provider of Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis.

Green Mountain is dedicated to providing renewable energy, and since inception its customers have avoided more than 19 billion pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, the equivalent of every house in Pennsylvania turning off its lights for two years. Choosing renewable electricity products helps encourage the development of new pollution-free generation facilities around the country. Green Mountain customers' demand has already helped spur the development of over 50 new wind and solar facilities across the U.S., including the first utility-scale wind farm built in Pennsylvania in 1999.

Pennsylvania Offerings and Projected Impact

Green Mountain customers can choose products based on what's most important to them, such as type of renewable energy source and contract structure. "We work hard to ensure there are cleaner energy products that fit the various needs of both our residential and commercial customers, which is why Green Mountain offers multiple service plan options," continued Holtz.

By choosing renewable energy such as Pollution Free™ electricity from Green Mountain, Pennsylvanians can help avoid CO2 emissions caused by traditional electricity generation. An average eastern Pennsylvania household using Pollution Free electricity for one year can avoid 1,100 lbs of CO2 emissions1. That's like not driving 1,200 miles - - the equivalent of four road trips from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh on the PA Turnpike.
